Just Because: Favorite Children's Books

This post seems random, and it kind of is, but it's because the ever amazing K found this AMAZING BOOK!.  It blew me away, and is now on the top of my favorite children's books along with:

and

and

The first is my favorite Seuss book.  It was read to my Peace Corps group when we left for Namibia.  I read it to all my kids at camp.  And it was the reading at our Seuss themed wedding.  To me, one of the best things on paper.

The 2nd took me years to find after reading it when I was little.  YEARS.  It's really an environmental lesson, which I am a huge fan of.  I adore it, and have recently found out that there is a whole series!

The 3rd was my favorite as a young girl to read to LilSis.  The music to the song is in the back of the book.  It is just one of the sweetest stories of all time, and a must read/have!

Just thought I would share.  You don't have to be a child to enjoy them.  Sometimes simple makes the most poignant and apropos statement, even to those of us embittered and cynical adults.  They are both good reads :)

It's rainy here, so, go sit, read a book, sip a hot beverage, and curl up with someone you love.

  1. Aww, I love children's books. They are so positive and hopeful and inspiring :) The Awesome Book that you linked to is just Awesome! I want to get a copy for all the little ones I know :)

I remember reading Serendipity as a kid. I had the whole series. I was actually really slow to learn to read, and in the special late bird class for the kids who needed extra help. Even then I would sit at my desk and flip the pages of the Serendipity series pretending that I could read the books.

I think that one of my all time favorite childrens books is Runaway Bunny. The pictures and the story, I feel in some ways like it is the perfect story of hope for us infertiles who are searching for our babes.

I also recently discovered a series of books by Sibylle Von Olfers. I actually bought a bunch of them to have on hand for baby showers and childrens parties. I just think that they are adorable.

Okay - You've inspired me to do my very one Just Because post :)

  2. Children's books are the best! I'm working on building my library of Seuss, Munsch, and others for our Halfling... Have you ever heard of 'Old Turtle'? That's my favourite children's book of all time.

  4. I remember Serendipity as well, but honestly I don't think I've read the other 2 - which is strange because I had a huge collection of Seuss books, and have always been a fan.
A Suess themed wedding? Seriously, that's amazing! :)

  6. I was in my doctor's office a few weeks ago and pulled a Dr. Suess book off the shelf while I was waiting to be seen. Apparently there is a Dr. Suess book club you can sign up for to be sent a title of the month. I've thought about doing it for my daughter because those books are just so fun.
